You are invited to ‘take the train for a walk !’

Organised by the Penistone Line Partnership (PLP), these walks are promoted by the RAMBLERS’ ASSOCIATION to encourage use of the train service to visit some of South & West Yorkshire’s finest countryside. Walks also take place in North Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

Join us for an enjoyable day out - all are welcome!

Walks are free but fares apply.

Bring along a flask and sandwiches.
Suitable footwear and clothing are recommended. Walks are at an easy pace.

- The Minster Of The Moors !

A walk that will enable us to visit St Mary’s church at Ecclesfield. It was the heart of a huge moorland parish stretching from the headwaters of the Derwent to the Don Valley. We will also see the link between St Mary’s and the Battle of Trafalgar.

Finish: Meadowhall.

 - A Different Side Of Sheffield !

Heading out of town on the Upper Don Walk, via Kelham Island conservation area and Neepsend, we will climb up onto Parkwood Springs with some stunning views over the city centre and beyond. This hillside will become a new country park in years to come. We will explore Wardsend cemetery and hear some of the area’s history. Return by bus or tram.
Start: 11am at SHEFFIELD station SUPERTRAM stop.

A walk via the ancient Anston Stones Wood, Woodsetts, Wallingwells, Langold Lake, Letwell, Firbeck to Maltby
via the marvellous ruins of Roche Abbey. Regular buses back to Rotherham, Meadowhall and Doncaster from Maltby.

A Wordsworth-style visit to Hampole Wood to see true wild daffodils in all their splendour, a harbinger of spring and longer days to come. If you are, like Wordsworth, in pensive mood this walk should be a tonic! The walk finishes at South Elmsall - or Moorthorpe station is a short distance away.

- Spring Has Sprung !

The Moss Valley is renowned for it’s displays of early spring woodland flowers. We sample this secluded valley’s delights just a stones throw from the hurly-burly of the city!
Rendezvous at Supertram stop at rear entrance of Sheffield station and we’ll catch the tram to the outskirts. At end of walk, return to city also by Supertram.
