You are invited to ‘take the train for a walk !’

Organised by the Penistone Line Partnership (PLP), these walks are promoted by the RAMBLERS’ ASSOCIATION to encourage use of the train service to visit some of South & West Yorkshire’s finest countryside. Walks also take place in North Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

Join us for an enjoyable day out – all are welcome ! Walks are free but fares apply.
Bring along a flask and sandwiches.
Suitable footwear and clothing are recommended.        

Walks are at an easy pace.
Take care, walk safe, beware of traffic: walks are carefully planned but you are responsible for your own safety. Free car parking at SAXILBY and MEADOWHALL.

OUR 20th ANNIVERSARY WALK!

Twenty years ago this week, 43 walkers joined the first-ever PLP 'rail trail' walking from Denby Dale to Huddersfield calling at all stations. We hope that today some of the original walkers, as well as others, will join with the original leader on a shorter route with fewer stiles! The Trans-Pennine Trail, old weaving village, superb viewpoint, packhorse tracks and reservoir scenery all add to today's delights. Join us in the pub afterwards for an anniversary drink before your train home?!

Into the beautiful Cordwell Valley then up a long continuous climb  to Big Moor on to White Edge with extensive views of the Hope Valley before a steep descent to the River Derwent and on to find 'Little John' in Hathersage !

A bracing walk with great views. Heading to Scissett on the Dearne Way, on to Emley and around the mast. Then on through Roydhouse, Kirkburton and Laycock Wood to the station at Stocksmoor. (part of East Peak Outdoors Festival)

Supporting the Saturdays-only train service on the 'Brigg Line', we trek along footpaths, lanes and new permissive bridleways to Gainsborough via Northorpe, Blyton and Morton, the setting for George Eliot's novel 'The Mill On The Floss'. (Bus option at Blyton 8.5 miles)
