You are invited to ‘take the train for a walk!’

Organised by the Penistone Line Partnership (PLP), these walks are promoted by the RAMBLERS’ ASSOCIATION to encourage use of the train service to visit some of South & West Yorkshire’s finest countryside. Walks also take place in North Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

Join us for an enjoyable day out – all are welcome ! Walks are free but fares apply.
Bring along a flask and sandwiches.
Suitable footwear and clothing are recommended.        

Walks are at an easy pace.
Take care, walk safe, beware of traffic: walks are carefully planned but you are responsible for your own safety. Free car parking at SAXILBY and MEADOWHALL.

 - Over The Hills!

A pleasant winter walk via Hillside and Hartcliff Hill to Underbank Reservoir returning over Castle Hill and Snowden Hill. Great views with some short, steep climbs.
(bus option at Stocksbridge after 6 miles : No.57 to Sheffield or No.23 to Barnsley or Penistone).
Start: 9.20am at PENISTONE        
Finish: PENISTONE
Distance: 6 miles or 10½ miles.

A delightful circular returning via Cawthorne.

- The Moon With A Brew!

A pleasant walk across fieldpaths, passing the coal-fired chippy at Upton with lunch stop at the Half Moon Inn & microbrewery at Willingham then onto the 1000-year old Minster church at Stow.
Start: 9.50am at GAINSBOROUGH LEA ROAD  
Finish: STOW  (return No.100 bus to Gainsborough Lea Road station, Saxilby station or Lincoln)

Through a former mining landscape via Phoenix Park, Hooton Pagnell, Clayton. Expect mud underfoot!

A walk on the borderlands between  Yorkshire and Derbyshire we are never far from reminders of the Chesterfield Canal and it's infrastructure. We'll pass through Killamarsh and the Rother Valley Country Park and under the M1 twice!
