- Old King Coal !

This walk looks at the iron, coal and coking industries which once dominated this area. From Wombwell up to the woods, Barrow Colliery site, Worsborough village and onto Rockley, Pilley Woods, Tankersley Park, Warren Lane, passing the old station, through the park on our way to the present station.
Start: 10.15am Wombwell station. 
Finish: Chapeltown.
Distance:  9½ miles.

  - Walk On By !

A pleasant walk jointly with the Barnsley & Penistone Ramblers through bluebell woods hopefully displaying their best!
Start: 9.15am at Silkstone Common 
Finish: Silkstone Common.
Distance:  10 miles.

  -  Brigg Line Ramble !

As part of the Lincolnshire Wolds Walking Festival, we support the Saturdays-only train service with a delightful easy walk on public footpaths from Kirton-in-Lindsey to Hibaldstow then along the River Ancholme to finish at Brigg for a look around this historic town and visit the local farmers’ market, winner of the National Rural Farmers’ Market Award 2009!
Start: 9.30 am Kirton Lindsey station.
Finish: Brigg.  
Distance:  8 miles.

- The Other Side Of  Town !

As part of the Sheffield Walking Festival, this walk focuses on the unfashionable side of Sheffield which hides some fine countryside with plenty of interest. We visit the site of one broken dream and the site of another dream still unfulfilled. Then pass the only graveyard with it’s own public house. The rich history of the Shirebrook valley unfolds as we hope to visit Birley Spa, Sheffield’s answer to Harrogate & Bath. Definitely a different angle on this steel city!
Start: 9.50am DARNALL station.
Finish: Woodhouse.
Distance: 10 miles.

- North Chesterfield Way !

Today we use Northern’s new Leeds to Nottingham hourly service linking Yorkshire with the East Midlands.  From Dronfield, this route uses field and woodland paths through pleasant rolling countryside on the edge of the  Peak District then approaches the bustling market town of Chesterfield via country parks and green corridors.
Start: 10.15am  Dronfield station.  
Finish: Chesterfield.
Distance: 9 miles.

- From Cuckoo To Mallard !

A lovely easy walk in North Nottinghamshire on the   “Cuckoo Way” alongside the Chesterfield Canal towpath finishing at The Mallard on Worksop station!
Start: 10.30am  Retford station.
Finish: Worksop.
Distance: 11 miles.

Saturday  JULY  18th   2009 - A Double D Please Bob !
A walk over the tops of the Dearne Valley, passing Deffer Wood onto Gunthwaite corn mill, over the hills to Hoylandswaine, down into Silkstone village then up to the station at Silkstone Common and onto Dodworth.
Start: 9.40am  Denby Dale station.
Finish: Dodworth.
Distance: 10 miles.

Saturday  AUGUST 1st  2009       
 - A Yorkshire Walk on Yorkshire Day !
Off we go up Cold Hill and skirting Castle Hill fort then onward to Farnley Tyas, Storthes Hall, Kirkburton, Shepley and Denby Dale. Familiar paths, hills, woods and views of Holmfirth and beyond. Why not bring some wine for lunch and toast Yorkshire Day? After all, we are in ‘Last Of The Summer Wine’ country!
Start: 9.45am  Berry Brow station.
Finish: Denby Dale.
Distance: 10 miles.

- Upper Dearne Valley !

Picking up the start of the River Dearne near to it’s source at Birds Edge and via river, woodland, open country with good paths and lovely countryside along the way.
Start: 9.38am  Darton station.
Finish: Denby Dale or Shepley.
Distance: 9 or 13 miles.

this summer!

You are invited to take the train for a walk! Organised by the Penistone Line Partnership (PLP), these walks are promoted by the Ramblers' Association to encourage use of the train service to visit some of South & West Yorkshire’s finest countryside. Walks also take place in North Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. Join us for an enjoyable day out – all are welcome ! Walks are free but fares apply.

Bring along a flask and sandwiches. Suitable footwear and clothing are recommended. Walks are at an easy pace.

Health Note: Walking is good for you !
Regular walking can help improve your health and has been described as ‘most nearest to perfect exercise’  - it’s sociable & great fun too
